Roosevelt and Conger elementary schools recognized among top-performing readers

Superintendent Keith Brown told the board that an analysis published by Chad Alderman in The 74 identified two Klamath Falls City Schools elementary schools—Roosevelt Elementary and Conger Elementary—as performing in the top 5% nationally for reading proficiency after adjusting for poverty.
Brown said the recognition reflects focused work on foundational reading instruction by elementary teachers, building administrators and implementation teams across the district. He also noted Pelican Elementary is performing significantly above expectations and is close to being identified as an "Exceptional School" under the analysis’ methodology.
Board Chair Andrew Biggs noted he is familiar with author Chad Alderman from prior work and said it was gratifying to see KFCS recognized in the analysis; he encouraged board members and community members to review the article and its interactive data visualization for district-level context.
