Andrew Biggs, board chair, opened the session; Fred Bartels, director of school improvement, presented an overview noting the district serves approximately 2,600 students and that 56% are identified as economically disadvantaged.
Staff told the board that attendance remains below the state average and is the district's primary concern. Bartels outlined statewide accountability indicators showing slight long-term improvement in 3rd-grade ELA but flat performance in 8th-grade math, declines in 9th-grade on-track rates, and lower four-year graduation rates while five-year completion rates remain stronger. Board members pressed staff for clearer dashboards and more frequent progress reporting to support decision-making.
