Superintendent Keith Brown told the board that the district will form a District Equity Committee (DEC) as required by Oregon law to identify barriers to equitable access and recommend strategies to improve outcomes for historically underserved students.
Brown said the DEC will meet monthly, include educators, parents/guardians, students and community members, and report back to the board. The first meeting is planned for later this fall; the district will post participation instructions on Facebook, the district website, and via email. Brown confirmed that one Budget Committee appointee will also serve on the DEC as required by statute.
Board members asked whether the committee will provide regular updates; Brown said monthly reports and public invitations will be provided. The committee creation is an informational item and no board vote was required during this meeting.
