The La Cygne City Council on April 23 approved Change Order No. 1 for the Hodges Farms & Dredging contract, reducing the total contract price by $30,000 to allow land application of biosolids rather than hauling them to a landfill. The motion to approve the change order passed 3-0.
City Clerk Jodi Wade presented the change order and reported that BG Consultants provided testing reports showing the stored solids meet applicable state and federal standards for land application. The change order reduces the original contract price from $648,900 by $30,000 to a new total of $618,900. According to the records presented, $426,455 has been paid to date, leaving a remaining balance of $192,445.
Wade emphasized timing: "the importance of timing in this matter because farmers will be preparing to plant soon," noting the land-application schedule affects when biosolids need to be made available. Council Member Jerome Mitzner moved to approve Change Order No. 1; Council Member Ed Smith seconded. The council voted 3-0 in favor.
Following the vote there were no further questions, and the special meeting adjourned at 12:03 p.m. The clerk later signed the meeting record certifying it as a true and correct copy on April 23, 2025.
