La Cygne council begins planning for street and stormwater improvements, discusses sales-tax option

Mayor Debra Wilson and staff reviewed the timeline of actions taken to date on the street and stormwater master plan. Public Works Superintendent Dan Nasalroad reported replacing one alley culvert and suggested removing two other alley culverts where there is no roadway to return those areas to a ditch. Council discussed road widths and the potential for converting some streets to single-lane one-way configurations to manage costs.
City Clerk Jodi Wade outlined the process for a sales-tax election and proposed shifting the existing 1% sales tax currently dedicated to the pool toward streets, stormwater and sidewalks. Council Member Jerome Mitzner said understanding finances and an election timeline would be a first step; CC Wade will contact Raymond James and Gilmore & Bell to develop a schedule and ballot language.
