Merriam City officials sworn in; Bob Pape takes mayoral oath
Summary
At a regular Merriam City council meeting, officials swore in newly elected council members and Mayor Bob Pape, who pledged to support U.S., state and city constitutions and to carry out duties of the office. The council then moved to business including the legislative agenda and staff reports.
Mayor Bob Pape and newly reinstalled council members took the oath of office at the start of the meeting.
“I, Jacob Wayne,” recited council member Jacob Wayne as part of the oath, and later Mayor Bob Pape repeated the oath, saying, “I, Bob Pape…that I will faithfully…discharge the duties of mayor.” The mayor invited applause and photos after the swearing-in.
The installation was followed by the mayor’s brief report on community events and staff volunteer efforts. The mayor highlighted recent outreach, including the Johnson County Kiwanis doll-cradle project and a community-tree lighting ceremony, and thanked staff and volunteers for their work.
The council recessed into its regular agenda after the ceremony and proceeded to consider business items on the docket.
