Police chief reports 2025 enforcement totals and equipment upgrades planned

Police Chief Zachary Mathies reported the La Cygne Police Department’s 2025 year-to-date enforcement totals: 120 traffic stops, 8 citations, 145 calls for service and 41 reports. He gave a breakdown for March 19–April 1, including 26 traffic warnings, 25 calls for service and one drug offense. Chief Mathies said all patrol vehicles are uniformly outfitted and the department is awaiting installation of Axon dash cameras.
On equipment and communications, Chief Mathies said he had been told by Linn County IT Director Chris Martin that the department’s radios will be switched to an encrypted county channel in July and that the expected cost is roughly $100 per radio; the department currently has seven radios. He also reviewed codes-enforcement activity counts and raised the outstanding question of the condemnation status for 112 S. 7th Street. "Oreo"—a dog previously impounded—remains with a foster family and is still available for adoption, the chief added.
