City outlines July 1–4 schedule including drone show replacing fireworks

City Recorder and Finance Director Shanna Johnson provided an overview of Perry's July 1–4 celebration schedule at the June 25 meeting. Events span July 1–4 and include an awards dinner and flag-raising on July 1 with former mayors and presentation of a commemorative challenge coin; Grand Marshals Jana and Reese Nelson; Citizen of the Year Jolene Eddington; Business of the Year Heritage Chrysler Jeep Dodge; Mayor's Award to Pronghorn Bicycles; and the Boyd White Service Award to Bruce Whiting. Other scheduled activities include a softball tournament, movie in the park (showing Miracle), a drone show sponsored by Mr. Bender and Box Elder County, a deadlift competition, donut-eating contest, home run derby, kickball tournament, car show and a parade on July 4.
Council Member Blake Ostler reported positive resident feedback about replacing fireworks with a drone show for fire-safety reasons. Chief Scott Hancey confirmed doubled staffing for enforcement across the holiday weekend. The council took no formal action; the item was informational and staff will proceed with the published schedule.
