Board reviews cooling strategies and Tiger Home project as staff raise HVAC concerns

The La Grande School District board on Sept. 11 reviewed the district's LGSD Cooling Strategies document and heard staff and union representatives raise concerns about HVAC equipment and building conditions. Superintendent George Mendoza said the cooling strategies document "outlines our District procedures for high temperatures and what resources are available for staff and students."
LEA President Chris Leavitt and other OSEA/LEA representatives reported gratitude for custodial and Plant/Operations work over the summer but also "shared concerns about District HVAC issues," and credited Plant and Operations Manager Brad Sunderman and Superintendent Mendoza for working to resolve the problems. Separately, Assistant Superintendent Scott Carpenter and Tiger Home teacher Parker McKinley reported that sidewalks for the first Tiger Home project will be poured Friday morning and that plans for Tiger Home #2 will be submitted to the City of La Grande next week; they said design changes for the next home will reduce time and cost.
