Council approves temporary storage permit at 5701 Roe for Johnson County Wastewater

The Mission City Council approved a special-use permit for a two-year period allowing Johnson County Wastewater to use the Rock Creek Pump Station site at 5701 Roe for temporary storage and off-site employee parking while the Belinda Pump Station project is constructed.
Planning staff introduced the request and recommended approval. Alex Zawinski, managing engineer for Johnson County Wastewater, described the project and the need for laydown and staging nearby: “So 3 main things we wanna talk about tonight. 1 is the Belinda Pump Station project. The 2nd is the request for temporary storage on our Rock Creek Pump Station site. And then talk a little bit about the Rock Creek Pump Station project itself…” Taylor Hughes, the contractor and project manager, detailed site operations and security measures: “There'll be security cameras at the lot… we will have locks on our gates… and our plan is to put filter fabric on top of the existing grass and then kind of like a base rock… we will restore the site back to its normal conditions after we are done.”
Council members asked about routing and truck maneuvers; staff and county representatives said gooseneck trucks (not semitrailers) are expected, crews will avoid backing into streets, and contractors will street-sweep and remove debris as needed. A motion to approve the permit for two years was moved and seconded; the clerk called the roll and the motion carried.
