Rock Creek corridor study enters phase two with blended trail concept and engagement plan

The planning staff summarized Phase 2 of the Rock Creek corridor study, covering the corridor from Woodson Road west to Metcalf. Planner Mr. Scott said the effort built on an earlier phase (Woodson east to Roe) and used public-engagement events (a well-attended walk-and-roll, neighborhood meetings, and an open house) to shape three concepts.
"Concept one kind of takes a little bit more of a conservative approach... Concept 2 takes a much more... aggressive approach... Concept three... is really kind of a blend of those two," Mr. Scott said. Concept two drew significant public interest at the open house (including ideas for event space on the Target parking lot), and staff said they plan a consultant presentation on the 15th with large-format maps and more detail. Planners said the study is intended to be integrated into the capital improvements plan and to create opportunities to leverage developer dedications and future grants.
Committee members asked for larger maps at the consultant presentation; staff committed to bringing more detailed mapping and answering engagement-process questions. The study will remain iterative and intended to seed future CIP projects as funding becomes available.
