Madison council approves police labor agreement with OPBA

Council passed Ordinance No. 33-2024 on Dec. 23 to approve a labor agreement with the Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association. Law Director Szeman explained the tentative agreement had not been included in the packet earlier because there was not an opportunity to hold an executive session; Council voted to amend the ordinance to add the tentative agreement as "Exhibit 1," suspended the rules, and then passed the ordinance as amended.
The minutes record unanimous roll-call votes for the amendment, suspension and passage. Mayor Britton said he was "happy with the agreement." The ordinance as passed was described in open session; the tentative agreement text was added to the record as Exhibit 1 per the Council motion.
