Architect: modest, residential‑style synagogue planned at 33 Canyon Road

Architect Dave Atkinson told the Waterford Design Review Board the proposed building is intentionally simple and residential in scale. "The building, as Mike points out, is very, very, very straightforward," Atkinson said, describing a one‑story structure roughly 44 by 96 feet with a vaulted sanctuary and a ridge height of about 24 feet.
Atkinson outlined interior uses including a sanctuary with approximately 9.5‑foot entry and office ceilings and a vaulted sanctuary reaching roughly 12 to 15 feet. He said the sanctuary would seat "about 100, hundred and 20 people tops" and that the project includes a commercial kitchen, small offices, accessible restrooms and a conference room. Exterior materials called out in the plans include a thin stone veneer wainscot to about 3–3.5 feet, CertainTeed‑style vinyl siding and asphalt shingles, with a small standing seam metal accent at the entry.
Atkinson and the project team emphasized the goal of keeping the building unobtrusive and in keeping with the residential character of the neighborhood. The board asked follow‑up questions on mechanical equipment placement and entry lighting; the design team said they will finalize equipment locations on a subsequent submittal.
