The ordinance, sponsored by Commissioner Newsom and seconded by Commissioner LaFrantz, moves $237,000 to pay contractors for apron work that began as an emergency repair, the chair said. "It's $237,000," the chair noted during discussion. Miss Bell told commissioners crews are sandblasting and painting one apron at a blast yard and expect to install aprons mid-next week, weather permitting.
The council opened the machines for voting and recorded the item as passing with 7 yeses; one commissioner was out of chambers during the vote. Commissioners said the amendment simply provides money to cover already-started work rather than authorizing new scope.
Next steps include final installation, state testing and approvals before the landings reopen. Staff indicated they will provide updates to the community on re-opening timelines.
