County holds off on Rio Dixie Highway crosswalks pending FDOT unwarranted finding

Susan Korres told the CRA that the county’s traffic division and public works staff concluded the proposed crosswalks along Rio Dixie Highway are currently unwarranted under FDOT regulations and therefore cannot be approved in the current configuration.
"They do not approve of putting in the crosswalks as things stand right now," Korres said, adding that staff expect the situation to change once planned nearby projects (Rio Marine and the civic center) are built and increase pedestrian demand. She said the county will keep crosswalk designs on file and incorporate them into the streetscape when conditions warrant. Korres also mentioned artist proposals and vendor work for benches and bike racks as part of the broader streetscape effort.
