Principals report enrollment dips, continued food program and safety planning

District principals told the board on Jan. 12 that enrollment across the three schools shows modest declines and ongoing activity in academics and extracurriculars. Elementary Principal Heidi Arrate reported, "Enrollment is at 385—have lost 5 students due to moves," and confirmed the backpack food program will continue, with "students will be sent home food on Thursdays." Arrate said the Parent Involvement Committee will meet Jan. 14 and that the district is emphasizing parental volunteers rather than forming a PTO due to legal concerns.
Middle School Principal Joe Hally reported enrollment at 242, including 20 open-enrollment students, and noted cooperation with the SRO on safety resources; he also thanked Acahand for a grant to purchase bleachers and a sound system and celebrated district championships in girls' basketball and wrestling. High School Principal Tammy Mahler described professional development using the Charlotte Danielson Model with an emphasis on Domain 4 (Professional Responsibilities), reported an achievement overview with areas needing attention, and noted that 20–25 BPA students will advance to state competitions. Federal Programs Director Janessa Thomas said staff training focused on Progress Monitoring Online and that an ELL assessment is scheduled for February.
Superintendent Wade Wilson summarized foundation payments and said he listened to the governor's State of the State address to assess impacts on public education; he also highlighted upcoming events including 'Day on the Hill' and 'Bite Size Governance.'
