New Plymouth trustees re-elect Lane Austin as chair, eliminate Technology Committee

At its Jan. 12 organizational meeting the New Plymouth School District Board re-elected Lane Austin as chairman, named Doug Rupp vice-chair, finalized committee assignments and voted to eliminate the Technology Committee.
The Board of Trustees of New Plymouth School District re-elected Lane Austin as board chairman and named Doug Rupp vice-chair for the 2026 school year at its Jan. 12 meeting. Trustee Jared Kovick moved to elect Austin and Trustee Doug Rupp seconded; the vote was unanimous.
The board also finalized committee assignments and approved a motion to eliminate the Technology Committee. Clerk Shannon Reece read the committee designations, which include Austin on sick leave, policy, finance and Acahand; Rupp on negotiations, sick leave and oversight; Kovick on negotiations and finance; Jeremy Howard on oversight, calendar and Acahand; and Matt Cox on policy and calendar. The motions to set committees and eliminate the Technology Committee passed on unanimous votes.
The organizational actions were taken at the start of the regular meeting called to order by Austin at 6:00 p.m. A quorum of five trustees was present. The board then reviewed and signed the district Code of Ethics (policy 1600) as part of the organizational business.
The next scheduled policy work session and annual policy review was also set during the meeting for Jan. 27, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the district office.
