Negotiators discussed adding contract language to preserve up to one hour weekly of collaborative professional learning (PLC) for student needs within the contracted day and to incentivize principals to protect teacher classroom time during preplanning. One example cited in the meeting showed an elementary preplanning schedule giving teachers 17.5 of 45 hours in the classroom, which union representatives said should be improved.
Both sides acknowledged the importance of teacher time in classrooms and agreed to continue working on language to balance required training and teacher preparation time.
