Gilroy approves $450,000 contract for water and wastewater SCADA support

The Gilroy City Council voted unanimously on July 27 to award a three-year contract to AIC for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems used to monitor and operate the city—s water and wastewater infrastructure.
Tyson Veil, operations utility manager, recommended the contract after a competitive RFP. He told the council the work includes controls, automation and 24-hour support; the three-year contract is $450,000 with two optional one-year extensions. "It's important to us to have ongoing support since our water and wastewater delivery is 24/7," Veil said, explaining the RFP scoring emphasized approach, qualifications, proximity, and response time.
Councilmember Fugazi moved the award; Councilmember Marx seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote, 6–0. Veil and staff said the contract will be funded from water and wastewater funds and explained that the prior contract with Mission Controls expired in June.
The contract includes ongoing system monitoring, remote control capabilities, real-time alerts from field sensors (pressure, flow, reservoir levels), and options for future extensions. Council did not attach additional conditions at the time of award; staff said fiscal impacts for the contract will be managed within the utilities funds.
