Police Chief David Pernice reported that he has been unable to contact the candidate approved at the prior meeting and is treating the person as likely uninterested. Pernice told council the department would reach out to the regional consortium and pursue other candidates; “There are only 32 candidates on the list,” he said. He said he would check with the Civil Service Commission to set up oral exams and send letters to prospects.
Borough Manager Cindy Wells relayed the council’s direction that staff continue recruitment. Pernice said the department’s goal is to staff two part-time officers but only one position had been approved by council; for now council authorized pursuit of a single part-time hire. No vote was required; the council agreed by consensus to proceed with additional outreach and certification steps.
