The council held first readings and approved ordinances to rezone Aberdeen Development Corporation parcels in the planned industrial park. Planning staff said the frontage parcels were platted to support highway-related commercial development and recommended rezoning from R2 to C2; they also presented an adjacent parcel rezoning from R2 to I2 for traditional industrial uses.
"The property was platted in this way to create 4 lots for highway-related commercial development, buffering the Roosevelt Street corridor from the more intensive uses of an industrial park," planning staff Kenny said when describing the request. The planning commission voted unanimously to recommend approval for the frontage rezoning, and staff recommended approval for both items.
Council approved the first readings; one councilmember recorded an abstention on the second (I2) item. Staff said they are continuing recruitment of potential businesses for the park and that no final tenants have signed to date.
