The Richmond Select Board voted to approve $16,800 from the town center reserve fund to contract with PNP Septic for replacement of the Richmond Free Library wastewater pipe using a pipe-bursting method.
Board members discussed the contractor explanation of pipe bursting: the contractor and staff described the process as pulling a new seamless pipe into the place of the old one, breaking the old pipe underground and leaving a continuous polyethylene pipe with minimal surface disruption. "They do this process called pipe bursting. They'll basically break a new pipe inside the old pipe that has no seams in it," a board member explained during the discussion. The board approved the contract by voice vote and directed staff to proceed with scheduling and minimal traffic impacts during the work (a temporary lane closure on Bridge Street is likely).
