The superintendent presented a draft budget summary and invited finance staff to brief the board on key figures ahead of final adoption. Finance staff said salary lines reflect a 3% increase, retirement contributions rise to 26.10%, and health insurance increased to $8,925 per employee; capital outlay was prepared so it would not use fund balance, although the general/local budget includes some fund-balance appropriations.
Board members pressed for clarity on the current fund-balance total. Finance staff cautioned that the figure is provisional until auditors complete midyear and year-end audits and explained that audited statements (due later in the fall) produce final, verified numbers. The finance presentation also noted the Capital Outlay fund has a separate fund balance of roughly $500,000. The board asked whether to issue an RFQ for the '26 audit or delay to '27; staff said the '27 audit gives more time but the '26 audit could be done now if directed.
