Union City police report 269 calls since June; chief notes training and foundation grants

Police Chief David Pernice told council that from June 1 through Aug. 13 the department handled 269 calls, averaging roughly 3.63 calls per day, including pursuits, PFAs, warrants, domestic incidents, drug activity, vandalism, burglary and several suicide/mental‑health incidents.
Chief Pernice said he and Officer Shelly attended Alert Active Shooter training July 24–25 hosted by Millcreek PD. He also said he applied to the Union City Community Foundation for funding for four tasers and security cameras; the foundation awarded both requests, which the chief said will expand officer options and coverage on North Main Street.
