Parma approves Highland Games permit for March 13–14; organizers to refund $200 deposit

The Parma City Council voted March 10 to approve a Special Event Application for the Highland Games scheduled for March 13–14. Council President Joe Giardelli moved to approve the permit and Council member Ransey Portenier seconded; the roll call vote was recorded as aye from each member and the motion passed.
Nathan Leigh paid $300 toward the park fee to cover city charges, and the event organizers are expected to provide a $200 refundable deposit to cover possible sprinkler damage. Don Hubbartt, speaking on behalf of the Highland Games, said the event’s proceeds “go back to the Veterans” and described the gathering as a community fundraiser. Public Works will place barricades, block RV spaces, and provide access to park restrooms while the event brings in porta-potties.
The council noted prior changes to park reservation pricing and confirmed that event trash will be hauled away by the organizers. The park and city staff will inspect for sprinkler or other damage after the event before returning the deposit.
