Councilor Kathy Peck read a testimonial and presented a framed flag honoring Lt. Col. Dennis D. "Denny" Ross, who served as Maupin mayor from 2003–2011. The testimonial noted Ross's military service and years of civic leadership and called him the "Father of Modern Maupin."
Councilor Mike Foreaker moved to accept the proclamation and display the framed flag in the foyer at City Hall; Councilor Rob Miles seconded. The motion passed unanimously, 6-0. Mayor Carol Beatty and Councilor Shelby Dumire said they will work on ideas and criteria for an Outstanding Citizen Award and bring a proposal back to council.
The council's action formalizes the city's intent to recognize Ross's contributions and begin considering a recurring award to honor civic service.
