Maupin schedules "Get Ready" preparedness event; chamber reports $4,000 GoFundMe for firefighters

Recorder Christine Wolfe outlined plans and donations for the city's "Get Ready" preparedness event, set for Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tygh Valley Fairgrounds. Wolfe said Safeway donated $100, BiMart donated $50, and Staples donated plates, utensils, napkins and cups. The Maupin Fire Department will bring a structure engine and prepare food free for the first 200 attendees; the library will provide go‑bags and children's activities. Wolfe said there will be more than 30 vendors, raffles and volunteer needs.
Chamber Director Suze Riley reported that a GoFundMe account set up for local firefighters raised $4,000; the chamber plans to disperse a little over $1,000 to each fire department. Recorder Wolfe also reminded the council that applications for three Planning Commission seats are available online and at City Hall and that Fall Cleanup is scheduled for Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
