Jim Winterbottom of Waste Connections read a letter included in the meeting packet explaining the change; the company said the increase is intended "to help offset rising operational costs and disposal fees." The increase will raise the monthly residential one-can weekly pickup fee from $28.10 to $28.68 and the commercial 1½-yard container rate from $149.70 to $152.81, effective Jan. 1, 2025.
Councilor Kathy Peck moved to approve the adjustment and Councilor Tom Troutman seconded; the motion passed 7-0 (Ayes: Roper, Dumire, Troutman, Peck, Foreaker, Miles, Beatty). Council discussion did not identify conditions or exemptions for specific customer classes. The decision follows Waste Connections’ notice that disposal and operational costs have risen; no separate local subsidy or offset was proposed at the meeting. The council record does not show any formal dissent or planned appeals of the increase.
