Nadine Cooper, the elementary librarian for Schuylkill Valley, told the board she attended the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association conference in Altoona and shared highlights the district can use. She described a three-hour interactive workshop titled "AI Literacy in the School Library," hands-on activities about ethical use of AI, and sessions on digital citizenship that produced curated book lists she plans to add to this year's library orders.
Cooper said the keynote, Devin Siebold of the Bored Teachers Comedy Network, focused on using humor to reduce stress and build classroom relationships. She also described her work on the Mountain Laurel Book Award committee and said she will pilot a mock Caldecott program with the elementary art teacher to engage students in evaluating illustration. Cooper closed by thanking the board for supporting her conference attendance and saying she returned with practical programming ideas for students.
The board thanked Cooper for her report and for representing Schuylkill Valley at state-level librarian committees. Several trustees acknowledged specific session takeaways and encouraged pilots to begin in the coming school year.
