Bristow council awards $21,000 holiday lighting contract and approves holiday street closures

The Bristow City Council approved an initial payment of $21,000 to Comets Custom Christmas Lights (Claim #20130 to David Ballard, C/O Comets Custom Christmas Lights) to install building-top holiday lights along Main Street, with the balance due upon completion. Councilmember Joe Church moved and Councilmember Brian Peters seconded the motion; the roll call recorded Church, Fletcher, Green, Groom, Johns, Peters and Witty voting Aye.
Members of the Bristow Main Street Merchants Committee — Kristian Weaver and Machelle Willis — presented the committee’s seasonal work plan, fundraising efforts, and three bids for lighting. Willis recommended Comets Custom Christmas Lights, saying the company offered more lights, supplied timers to limit daytime operation, and submitted the lowest bid. The council also approved event logistics tied to the holiday season: closing East 8th Street for the Nov. 28 tree-lighting and shopping event (5:00–8:00 p.m.), closing the 8th & Main parking lot from Nov. 15, 2024 to Jan. 2, 2025 for Christmas activities, and closing Main Street Dec. 5, 2024 from 12th to 4th Street for the parade and shopping on Main. Each closure motion passed on roll call.
