Bristow trustees authorize negotiation of $2.2 million amendment aimed at keeping Carrus Lakeside hospital

The Bristow Hospital Authority on Oct. 2 voted unanimously to direct the City Attorney to negotiate an amendment to the development agreement with Carrus Lakeside Health, L.L.C., that would provide up to $2.2 million tied to licensing and federal certification. Attorney Beth Anne Childs told trustees she had been working with the Carrus team and described obtaining Critical Access Hospital status as “a game changer.”
Childs said the Critical Access application was approved locally and forwarded to federal authorities in Washington and that she hoped for a decision in about four months. She proposed that any $2.2 million payment be conditioned on Carrus holding the necessary CMS licenses and a Medicare provider number, that the city pay the amount over six months, and that Carrus be required to give six months’ notice to the city after the final payment if it chose to leave Bristow. Childs said she would draft an amended agreement and send it to Carrus if trustees directed her to do so.
Trustees discussed outreach to federal and state delegates to assist with the review process; Trustee Judd Johns suggested contacting Senator Lankford, Markwayne Mullin, Tom Cole and Kyle Hilbert. The trustees then approved a motion to direct the City Attorney to negotiate the amendment. Trustee Joe Church moved the motion, Trustee Judd Johns seconded, and a roll call vote recorded Church, Fletcher, Groom, Johns, Roberts and Witty as voting Aye; the motion passed.
Next steps: the City Attorney will prepare the draft amendment and transmit it to Carrus Lakeside for negotiation. The trustees did not vote on a final payment or sign a binding contract at the meeting.
