Selectboard questions state housing target of 51 new units for Lester and to review FLU maps

S5 (Selectboard member) told the board that regional planning provided updated future land-use (FLU) maps and that a newly created state housing board has set a target of 51 new housing units for Lester by 2030. "I don't think that number is reasonable given that Julie says we had 15 housing applications from 02/2019 to now, 15, not 51," S5 said.
S5 and others noted town constraints — about a quarter of Lester is wetlands, another quarter is conserved land, and part of the town is within the Green Mountain National Forest — that make accommodating 51 new units difficult without changing village boundaries, water or wastewater infrastructure. S5 said regional planners and Adam (county planner) have indicated targets are advisory with no penalties, and she will raise the town's concerns with the rural legislative caucus on Oct. 7 and report back. The board also received notice of an Addison County regional selectboard meeting at Addison County Regional Planning in Middlebury on Oct. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
