Selectboard hears dog-bite report, owner ordered to quarantine and vaccinate animal

Rob (staff member) reported a dog-bite incident at the Shacket Road and Oak Road intersection involving an unlicensed dog owned by a local resident identified as Jenny. The victim, Britney, suffered a single puncture to her hand and received hospital evaluation; the owner produced a 2023 rabies tag but had no current town license at the time of the incident. Rob said town protocol requires quarantine and vaccination.
"If this situation repeats itself, it will be far more severe, and she will receive citations," Rob said, urging the owner to get the rabies vaccination and town license immediately and to keep the animal under control off private property. The board asked staff to follow up after the owner's appointment at Middlebury and to issue citations if the dog is observed loose again. The board did not take a separate formal vote on enforcement during the meeting.
