County seeks veterinarian for Public Health Advisory Committee seat

The Burke County Public Health Advisory Committee is currently complete with the exception of one veterinarian seat, the clerk reported at the July 27 meeting. County staff said they are coordinating with the Animal Services Department to identify candidates and may recruit from contiguous counties if no qualified applicants are available within Burke County.
"We do have a full board with the exception of a veterinarian," the clerk said, adding that the county will make another effort with the newly hired Animal Services veterinarian and then consider outreach outside county lines. Commissioners asked whether state rules allow appointing a member from an adjacent county and were told that it is permissible if suitable candidates are not available within the county.
