The Stonecrest City Council on July 27 approved the purchase and installation of two metal detectors and an X‑ray machine for City Hall at an overall cost of $95,044.84, including installation, training and a four‑year warranty.
Facilities manager Reginald Powell presented the procurement recommendation, noting the equipment was procured through an Omnia cooperative contract and the purchase price includes required training and certification. The procurement memo and current quote were provided to council; Powell described the equipment as movable units that replace existing front and employee‑entrance screening devices.
Council members pressed staff on whether the building owner—the Stonecrest URA—must approve placement of equipment in a URA‑owned building and whether the URA should reimburse the city. City attorney said the lease/IGA should be checked to confirm any landlord consent or payment obligations, but noted that similar building improvements historically have been funded by the city and later approved by the URA. The council voted 3–0 to authorize the purchase and installation and asked staff to verify the URA agreement and follow up on any required URA action.
Reginald Powell said the units are portable and ‘‘can be picked up and carried away’’ and that staff would coordinate any procedural follow‑up with the URA. The city finance manager indicated the purchase would be funded from the city’s facilities account and staff will confirm exact line‑item coding and any need to shift funds.
