Residents urge fixes for speeding, visibility on Childs Road

Residents spoke at the Rivergrove City Council meeting on Oct. 14 about ongoing speeding and visibility problems on Childs Road. Forrest Chong told the council he has been sending notes to Clackamas County and said many stop signs and speed-limit signals are obstructed; he warned that the Stafford roundabout will likely increase traffic on Childs Road.
Other residents backed the concerns. Monique Tyler said the stop sign at Sycamore and Childs is “very dangerous,” and Michael Salch said he has collected supporting data and recommended traffic-calming measures such as a flashing red light at Sycamore and Childs and a council work session to consider options. Council discussion noted that Childs Road is too far from the school to be designated a school zone, but Councilors asked the mayor to obtain data from two speed signs and discussed pedestrian-activated flashing crosswalk lights as a short-term mitigation.
The council did not take formal action on this item but directed staff to obtain and report speed-sign data for follow-up. A work session was suggested by residents to develop possible engineering and enforcement responses.
