Deputy reports missing-child search, STR firearm discovery and arrest after assault

Deputy Kevin Grogan told the council the Rockaway Beach Patrol fielded an influx of people and vehicles in March and handled several notable incidents.
Grogan said investigators are following up on a theft with video, resolved a disturbance reported on South Baker Street as noncriminal, and conducted a rapid and collaborative search for a missing child after a timely report. He also reported a firearm and other illicit substances were recovered from a short-term rental and that an investigation is ongoing. Regarding a motor-vehicle collision that escalated into an assault with a deadly weapon, Grogan credited local video and witnesses for helping deputies identify and detain a suspect; the case has been forwarded to the district attorney’s office.
Councilors praised the quick multiagency response and commended community members who provided video and witness information that led to arrests.
