Lake Lytle restroom upgrades and a $1M floating boardwalk proposed in budget discussion

Public Works staff told the Rockaway Beach Budget Committee that accessible restroom and parking upgrades for Lake Lytle are planned in the 2026–27 proposed budget and that the city aims to bid the restrooms project within weeks and start construction this fall.
Staff also described an early-stage concept for a floating, accessible boardwalk through wetland areas at Lake Lytle. The boardwalk is at a conceptual stage and staff estimated a planning-level cost of about $1,000,000. The project team said they are exploring grants (including Travel Oregon competitive grants) and conversations with the Department of State Lands to obtain the necessary public-facility license or easements.
Committee members raised parking, milfoil treatment and ADA access as issues to resolve as the project proceeds. Staff said they will pursue grant funding and community engagement before returning with more detailed designs and cost estimates.
