The Connecticut Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Office approved a grant allocating $25,443.67 to the Middlebury Police Department for an 'eCitation Local Law Enforcement Support' project, effective July 1 through Sept. 30, 2026.
The DOT approval letter (state project number 0206-0742-BH) states: "Federal funds in the amount of $25,443.67 are allocated to this project in accordance with the approved 2026 Fiscal Year Connecticut Annual Grant Application." The approval message, delivered by email and copied to Seth Bernstein, Middlebury's chief financial officer, notes that reimbursement instructions will be sent to the police point of contact and that all final claims, with supporting documentation, must be submitted to the Highway Safety Office no later than 30 days after the project period ends.
The notice also cautions that deviations from the approved budget must be reviewed by the Highway Safety Office before implementation; the grant's CFDA number is 20.616. Joseph T. Cristalli of CT DOT is listed in the approval email as the contact for questions.
The board listed the approval in correspondence; there was no separate vote tied to the award during the July 6 meeting.
