Commission on Hispanic Affairs approves legislative priorities, opposes SB5057

The Washington Commission on Hispanic Affairs met by conference call on Feb. 7, 2025, and approved its Jan. 10, 2025 minutes before taking up legislative priorities and operational updates. Chair Lina Rios presided; the meeting began at 10:04 a.m. and adjourned at 10:37 a.m.
Executive Director María Sigüenza presented the Commission's priority bills using a Trello board. Dr. Bernal C. Baca moved to approve the priority list and Commissioner Chelsea Dimas seconded; the Commission voted unanimously in favor. Later in the meeting Vice Chair Jessica Hernandez moved that the Commission oppose bill SB5057; Dr. Baca seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The minutes record that discussion of bills began with SB5067, while the formal motion named SB5057.
Commissioners also discussed an invitation from the Latino Civic Alliance to participate in Latino Legislative Day; Executive Director Sigüenza relayed the invitation and commissioners considered participation. Assistant Director Nancy Rocha Aguilar provided an update on the Commission's rapid response hub and staff responded to questions. The session closed with no further formal actions recorded.
