Commissioner Fernando Mejia reported during the Aug. 9, 2024 commission meeting that he is working with community groups and a college on House Bill 5194 and coordinating with the Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) on how employment opportunities might be structured for undocumented students.
Mejia described this work as part of his community outreach and volunteer activities. Because the meeting did not reach quorum, commissioners did not take formal votes or issue recommendations on HB 5194 during the session.
