Interim Mayor Brienne Soldier told the council she has been in contact with Day County and Spink County highway superintendents, SDLTAP and SD DOT to gather options and cost estimates for repairing Main Street and to clarify a proposed contract involving SD DOT, BNSF Railroad and the city for replacement of utility tracks crossing Main Street. The council tabled further action on the railroad crossing contract and Main Street improvement until more information and formal cost estimates are available.
The council took the procedural step after discussing options and possible funding pathways; no vote to authorize expenditures was made. Mayor Soldier also noted discussions with the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks representative about an existing contract with the city for the Blue Dog Lakeside Use Area, which may affect adjacent work planning. The council directed staff to return with more detailed estimates and contract clarifications before making decisions.
