Board approves batch of policy deletions after staff review; some items moved to procedures or contracts

After a review with an OSBA representative, staff recommended deletions of policies that are duplicative, procedural, or controlled by contract or Division 22 rules; the board approved the deletions under item 8.4 by voice vote.
Staff presented a large policy update packet and recommended deleting portions of the policy manual that are duplicative, procedural, or already governed by contract or state rules. Staff cited Division 22 for library/media requirements and noted several items are procedures better kept out of board policy.
An OSBA reviewer (named in discussion) had helped identify items that were appropriate for removal; staff and board members discussed flagged items such as procedures for dismissal of classified staff and vending-machine language that is governed by federal nutrition rules or contract language. A board member moved to approve the deletions under item 8.4 and the board approved the motion by voice vote.
Staff said they will continue to send policy update packets periodically and will bring additions and required policy changes back for first and second readings when appropriate.
