District reports rising early attendance and improved literacy benchmarks after three weeks

Staff reported regular-attender rates of 86% for K— and 88% for secondary students after the first three weeks; daily attendance was 93.8% at the elementary level and 91.3% at the high school. Staff said benchmark testing shows fewer students in the lowest reading category than last year.
Staff provided a data-driven update on attendance and early literacy benchmarks. "Our goal this year is 82% of students being regular attenders. And after the first 3 weeks, we are at 86% of K-6 students and 88% of secondary 7 through 12 students," a staff member said.
The same staff member reported daily attendance rates and noted Monday is the lowest-attendance day: "At the elementary school we're at 93.8 percent daily attendance. And at the high school, we're just under 92 at 91.3%." Staff attributed a small dip in Monday attendance to an illness in the community and outlined planned communications and small-group instructional supports to address literacy gaps identified in beginning-of-year assessments.
Administrators said early benchmark data show fewer students falling far below grade level in reading compared with the previous year; they said individualized folders and targeted small-group instruction will support students who are below or approaching grade level. Staff committed to sending slides summarizing the data to the board.
