Council approves BNSF Peoria subdivision improvements, authorizes $75,000 MFT and accepts incentive funding

The council approved a motor-fuel-tax (MFT) resolution authorizing the use of $75,000 in MFT funds for the BNSF Peoria subdivision improvement project and then approved construction contracts related to the project.
City staff described the work as including roadway approach improvements, replacing asphalt with concrete, installing curbs and gutters on South Pine and East 2nd streets, and replacing sidewalks on South Farnham and Day streets. Hansen said the city will receive $206,109 in incentive funding from the grade crossing protection fund, BNSF Railway and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Separately, the council awarded the construction contract to Centennial Contractors for $72,002.52 (lowest responsive bid), noting a previously rejected bid near $320,000 for the same scope and that staff was able to rework the project to substantially reduce cost. The council voted to approve the MFT resolution and the construction contract by roll call votes (each passed unanimously).
