Trustees cite teacher shortfalls, truancy and low test scores when backing levy

"We have 8 teachers over the limit that the state will allocate funds for," Committee member (S6) said during the discussion, adding the district has "a truancy rate that's nearly 20%" and below-normal test scores. Committee member (S7) emphasized that the $805,000 amount reflects what the district needs. "That's the number we need, not a penny more," S7 said.
Board members said those claims should be part of public outreach materials so residents can understand how the levy would be spent. Staff did not present supporting documents for the staffing and attendance figures during this meeting; trustees asked staff to prepare explanatory evidence ahead of town halls so the public can raise informed questions and the board can respond.
The board agreed to proceed to the ballot while preparing the materials requested by trustees.
