The Newkirk Board of Commissioners voted Jan. 12 to approve a $94,761 proposal from Evans & Associates Construction Company Inc. to repair multiple streets in the city. Commissioners Joe Anderson and Jack Bagg made and seconded the motion, which passed on a roll call of Anderson, Bagg and Mayor Kellie Johnson.
The contract covers a range of targeted repairs: skim patches on Academy between 5th and Peckham and on Peach southbound from 15th, multiple asphalt patching areas on 5th Street, taper mill and 1.5-inch overlays at the west approach of 6th and Main and at intersections of 10th and Main and 11th and Main, and full-depth patching at the drain area on Maple and 9th Street. The motion record shows the scope also includes concrete and overlay work at several other intersections and localized leveling to maintain drainage.
Commission action: Commissioner Joe Anderson moved to approve the proposal; Commissioner Jack Bagg seconded and the motion carried by unanimous roll call. No public comments or objections were recorded during the vote. The approved dollar amount and the listed street locations were taken from the written proposal presented to the commission at the meeting and entered into the official minutes.
