Board hears asbestos change-order tied to gym-floor insurance claim

The superintendent and board clerk (speaker 2) told trustees that IRS Environmental, the asbestos abatement contractor, discovered asbestos within a float layer beneath a concrete slab while performing gym-floor remediation. "In the process of doing their work, they found that there was a float layer... and in between that float layer of concrete, happen to have some asbestos in it," the superintendent said.
Speaker 2 described the work as a week's worth of additional abatement and said it is part of the gym-floor insurance claim and therefore reimbursable. He sought board approval to move forward with the necessary change order. Board members asked clarifying questions and the superintendent confirmed the work would be submitted through insurance.
