Amanda Bush, the district gym principal, opened the session by telling the community that the district will place a levy on the May 19 ballot to shore up several locally funded programs and offset rising costs. "So we're here tonight to talk about the upcoming levy, which will be in May on the 19th," she said, then walked listeners through enrollment, staffing and the revenue mix that makes a local levy necessary.
Bush said the levy package was designed to reduce the impact on classroom staff compared with prior levies and to protect services not covered by state or federal funding. "These are the items that the levy will cost, and those are the items that we will not have if we do not have the levy," she said, adding the district sought to be transparent about numbers and to use one-time forest (SRS) receipts to lower the levy amount where appropriate.
