How to file to run in Chantico’s special election: county form required, drop-in envelope accepted

City officials told residents that anyone who wants to run for the single open council seat must use a Wasco County special candidacy form rather than the city’s usual form. “These are applications from the county,” the Chair said, adding they will be available after the meeting and posted on the lobby bulletin board for pickup.
The Chair described a local submission option: applicants should fold the county form, place it in an envelope with their name on it, and drop it through the city’s door slot (not the postal slot). The Chair said those envelopes will be collected only by Deb Holbrook, who will transport them to the county clerk’s office for processing. “Those will be collected by Deb and only by Deb to transport to the county,” the Chair said.
The Chair said the last day to file a candidacy on the county form is the 27th (described in the meeting as a week from the posting). The city will forward collected materials to Wasco County; city staff said the county will determine whether prospective filers meet any eligibility requirements.
The meeting did not include a formal eligibility ruling; the Chair said the city will consult the county clerk about specific eligibility questions and that the county will be the decider on whether a current or recent council member may run again.
